Thermal Imaging Mansfield OH

Friday, June 16th, 2017

Previously, inspectors could only report what they could see.  Now, however, infrared cameras allow professional inspectors to see beyond what is visible to the naked eye.  Infrared cameras capture the energy transferred from an object and produce an image in real time.  This image shows different colors, allowing us to see temperatures that are not normally visible.  We can save home owners and property managers money by identifying costly and potentially dangerous problems through our energy audits.  To learn more, call us today at 800-921-0966.  Our team is on hand, ready to provide your Mansfield, Ohio property with a thermal imaging inspection.

Certified Contractors

thermal-imaging-mansfieldThermal imaging was originally developed to find enemy soldiers at night during the Vietnam War.  It then progressed to medical imaging, testing for industrial purposes, and is now being utilized in the building consultation and construction trades.  A contractor that is properly certified and trained with a thermal imaging camera can provide clients with deeper insight to their properties.  They can find problems that include:

  • Water leaks around doors and windows
  • Cold air infiltration around doors and windows
  • Water intrusions through a home’s exterior covering
  • Insufficient or improperly installed insulation
  • Plumbing leaks
  • Improperly insulated, or not properly sealed, HVAC ducting
  • Roof, skylight or ceiling leaks
  • Faulty wiring, breakers, or fuses
  • Malfunctioning radiant heating
  • And more!

Professional inspectors that do not provide thermal imaging cannot provide the same peace of mind that comes with hiring an inspector certified in its use.  Call Bright Spot Energy Solutions today to schedule your inspection.  You can reach us at 800-921-0966.

12 Reasons Why Your Electric Bill Must Increase

Saturday, November 28th, 2015

If your somewhat happy with your current electric bill, it may be short lived. There are many changes going on with the electrical system around the country that will add up to much higher rates. Although gas and oil prices are far lower than they have been in over a decade, the Electric Industry is having their own problems.

To begin with, the Environmental Protection Agency would like us to have cleaner air to breath. To see that this will happen, coal fired generation plants are shutting down all across the country because they are unable to comply with the clean air mandates.

Next, most of the Electric Transmission and Distribution systems across the nation are over 50 years old. Some companies are already spending big money on system redevelopement. In addition to this, new transmission lines will be added to bring in additional power to areas where coal generation will no longer produce the power. FirstEnergy is currently investing $1.2 billion a year alone on their transmission system.

Another expense the power companies will have is for the installation needed for the gas powered Electric Generation plants that will need to be built. These will be used to keep up with current demand as a result from the shortages coal fired plants used to supply that are now currently being dismantled, and during increased peak demand,

Additionally, the power companies also have the American consumer to contend with. Since the early 2000’s, more and more consumers are buying energy efficient home appliances. In addition to this, they are making their homes more energy efficient to save money on lighting, heating and cooling expenses. When you throw in a slow economy and the fact that most people are cutting back on their energy use, this has taken a sizable bite out of their revenue stream.

So you can see that from just a handful of examples that there are some real challenges in a industry where the growth potential does not really exist any longer. Electric companies are now in a position of just trying to maintain the current system. And when you throw a severe weather storm in there from time to time, the repair bill can add up quickly. But where is the needed revenue to cover just these expenses they are facing going to come from? From YOU!!

Now, we have covered about a half dozen reasons why your electric prices must go up in the years to come. Electric Companies have historically been very good to investors. The dividends they have paid to investors, on average, have been well above most stock companies over the years. They will need more revenue to meet the challenges they face and keep their investors happy. For the reasons listed above, and an additional list you need to be concerned about, there is a free report put out by the Edison Electric Institute that was published in January of 2013 that addresses these and other disruptions at:

Brightspot Partners with Choice Roof Contractor Group

Saturday, July 12th, 2014

As an educationally-minded consulting firm, Brightspot Energy Solutions seeks to connect building owners with solutions that reduce energy use, increase cost savings, and foster energy independence. Therefore, we’re proud to announce the formation of a strategic partnership with Choice Roof Contractor Group, a nationwide group of commercial roofing contractors who specialize in high-performance, highly energy-efficient roofing solutions. Choice Roof Contractor Group and Bright Spot will work together to drive consumer awareness of the benefits of energy-efficient roofing and the impact it can have on strengthening consumers’ budgets and lessening their environmental impact.

Further Reducing Dependence on Grid with Energy-Efficient Roofing Solutions

energy-efficient-roofingSpecifically, Choice Roof Contractor Group members use white roof coatings that form a white, reflective roof surface when applied over an existing roof. These roof coatings represent the better of two different worlds—they stop expensive leaks by providing an additional layer of protection over an existing roof, and they greatly enhance a building’s energy-conservation capability.

The product selection of choice for Choice Roof Contractors is Conklin® roofing products because of their demonstrated durability and lasting energy-saving performance. In fact, studies show Conklin® roof coatings reflect up to 85% of the sun’s energy. With a majority of the sun’s energy reflected, heat is kept from being transferred over the rest of the building. The building then does not have to use as much air conditioning to keep its interior cool.

In that context, Conklin® roof coatings are capable of generating up to 50% in annual A/C cost savings.

Roof Coatings as an Eco-Friendly, Life-Extending Solution

white roof coatingWhen applied, a white roof coating forms a completely seamless, completely waterproof, and fully-adhered membrane over the old roof. This new roof membrane extends the old roof’s life for many years—in some cases, a Conklin®-applied roof has been known to last for up to 25 years, or even longer, and still perform well. This new roof membrane holds up well in all climates and provides great cooling cost savings.

Because they are applied over an old roof, Conklin® white roof coatings do not require any expensive roof replacement. No roof tear-off and disposal is therefore involved, meaning a roof coating system, or a “roof restoration”, is a more eco-friendly option on the whole.

Aside from the lessened environmental impact, there are many cost savings that can be attained with a roof restoration, as well. These can translate into thousands of dollars in savings and can include:

Up to 18-Year
Leak-Free Warranty
  • Roof tear-off costs
  • Roof disposal expense burdens
  • Landfill costs
  • Higher labor costs
  • Higher roofing product volume costs
  • Costs of interrupted business or building operations

It has been estimated with Conklin® roof coatings, a building owner can save up to 50% on roof replacement costs. Once the roof coating system has been applied on an old commercial roof as part of a retrofit project, a renewable energy system can further enhance a building’s energy-saving capacity.

Partnership in Action

For building owners looking to make their building more energy-efficient, we know Conklin®-trained roof contractors whom we can reference. Among other benefits, Choice Roof Contractor Group’s “preferred” Conklin® roofing vendors often offer non-prorated warranty coverage on all labor and material costs, as well as a lifetime service guarantee.

Along with our partner’s option for reducing your reliance upon the grid, we offer consulting services for determining your property or building’s viability for wind, solar, or hybrid energy system benefits. Should you be interested in learning more about these opportunities or the synergistic relationship between these systems and roofing products, please give us a call at (419) 496-6443.

Conserving Energy

Tuesday, July 1st, 2014

When considering the installation of a wind or solar renewable system, the most economical way to go about it would be to reduce your energy consumption as much as possible first. For every dollar spent on energy conservation you will save three to five dollars on the installation of a renewable system in the long run. There are several ways to reduce your energy use that could add up to huge energy savings:

  • Start with replacing incandescent light bulbs with LED or florescent bulbs. These bulbs use only a fraction of the electricity but the life is much longer.
  • Consider installing ceiling fans to save money on heating or cooling.
  • Install shades or blinds in windows on south-facing walls to block hot radiant heat in the summer.
  • Reduce your water heater temperature to 120 degrees. Wrap your tank with a bubble insulated foil wrap and install a water heater insulated blanket on top.
  • If you have an electric water heater, consider installing a timer set to heat your water only once or twice a day.
  • Keeping your attic insulation cool in the summer and warm in the winter will make a big difference in your comfort level. Installing a foil barrier on top of your insulation will provide both comfort and big savings on energy use year-round.
  • Install a low flow 1.5 gallon per minute shower head.

By completing these low cost, energy conservation retrofits, you can install a renewable system at a far lower cost and produce enough power to offset most or even eliminate your electric bill. Look for more ideas to reduce your electric use coming soon!
